Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of maintenance is required by the AquaVista® 500 wall mounted aquarium?

We believe that you will find the maintenance process very simple.  This aquarium comes delivered with a quality filtration system that can keep the water clean and only requires 15 minutes a month for maintenance. After this period, you need only change 1/3 of the water to effectively clean your aquarium.   Your aquarium includes a siphoning device, filter sponge, gravel, bio balls and  water scraper for easy and effective maintenance.  Replenish with fresh water and treat accordingly.  Contact your local pet supply store or refer to our links page to obtain basic aquarium maintenance information.

Is the AquaVista® 500 easy to set up and hang?

The AquaVista 500 is completely preassembled and easy to set up.  An easy to mount custom steel bracket is included in the box.  Secure the bracket to the studs in the wall and hang the aquarium onto the re-inforced hooks.  The aquarium will hang flush on the wall.

What are chloramines and what should I do to my water before adding to my aquarium?

Most drinking water from the tap now contains chloramines. Chloramine is a chemical compound composed of chlorine and ammonia. These disinfectants are used in drinking water to prevent the spread of germs and disease. Although people and animals can safely drink chloraminated water, water for special uses such as kidney dialysis, pond water for fish and amphibian pets, and water used by some business and industrial customers must have chloramines removed or neutralized. As with chlorine, chloramine is harmful to fish (saltwater and freshwater), reptiles, shellfish, and amphibians that live in water.

The appropriate dechloraminating products or carbon filtration equipment for removing chlorine and ammonia will be available in most pet and aquarium stores prior to the conversion. Home remedies such as boiling water, using salts, and having water remain still are not effective methods to remove chloramines. Unlike chlorine, which only takes a few days to dissipate when remaining still, chloramine stays in the water for a few weeks. The best way for fish owners to remove chloramine is to use a conditioner that contains a dechloraminating chemical. See your local pet store for dechloraminating chemicals.

What kind of fish can I have in my new aquarium?

Look for fish that live in a fresh water environment.  Some recommended fish are Platyx, Tretas, Neons, Silver Dollars, Tiger Barbs, Green Barbs, Gold Barbs, Guppies, Danios, Angel Fish, Algae eating fish  (Plecostyamus, Chinese algae eater).
